Amber DC Chapter 7
A talent bed can be planed and grown on purpose. Two young teachers, fed up with the status quot entered into their own large scale version of deep practice by trying to build their own school that fixed the problems they saw with every good idea they could get their hands on. The first rounds of this experiment were almost disastrous, but they kept going, refining, weeding out the bad and keeping the good. Eventually they ended up with a formula for a hugely successful school program, easily reproduced with a very strict regimen that gave students high goals to reach for, high expectations and an environment that inspired trying and performance.
Key Concepts: A talent hotbed can be grown, but requires a great deal of diligence and thoughtful application of cues to light the fire of motivation and keep it lit.
Talent and success are ignited by signals and honed by deep practice.
Key words: Signals, cues, purposely planted cues, everything is earned.
Making Connections: A solid framework of expectations is a strong cue for a student to work hard. It is important to show a student that there are rewards for hard work.
