Taylee TC ch. 7

Taylee. Summary: This was a relatively short chapter that outlined the story of the KIPP public schools. Most of the examples of primal cues used in this book were unexpected and could not have been planned. These school however, where intentional and designed to improve on what the average school system was lacking: purpose. They were teaching skills that would do more than just help then get through 4th grade. Just as piano, volleyball, and reading are acquired skills, learning can become a more efficient and beneficial process than just passing the time.
Key Terms: Character. Tracking.
Key Concepts: Any goal can be reached if it is a priority. Character is an acquired skill. We are just going through the motions unless we have a specific purpose in mind. You know you love something if you are thinking about it when you don't have to.
Making Connections: Before reading this chapter, I hadn't really categorized learning or character with singing or dancing as a talent. I can turn anything into a "talent". Yes I'm reading this book for a singing class, but that shouldn't stop me from applying this to my life in general. KIPP schools teach discipline, priorities, social etiquette, along with math, reading, and history to help them succeed in college AND life. If I focus energy on life skills, they will help me in life yes, but in my singing talent as well. (it's kinda late for me as I'm writing this, so I apologize if the last sentence is a little vague.)
