Master Class Critiques 9/3/2013

9/3/2013 Master Class critiques

Shalayna's breathing was what I would call balloon like. She was very supportive of her breath and had a very deep, rich sound. She was intune and because I knew the song personally I could understand her words. Her expression in he song stayed the same for the most part and I would love to see her do more. When working with Cindy Dewy her inflections of the words and the way she sung the song once going through it just speaking was so much better. Her meaning became more clear and I felt like she was that character. Those words she sang came off the page and created the story. I really enjoyed her performance especially the second time she sang it.

Jake Spjute started out with bucket breathing and half way through the song switched to a supportive balloon breath. He was in tune and I would call his sound mature and strident. His diction from what I could here was good and I but there were a few words I could not pick out. Expression was the same as his breathing it got better in the 2nd half. When Cindy made him put the highlighter in his mouth it was amazing what his body did differently. His support was forced to come from his diaphram. It was amazing. She kept making his try to hit that high spot in the top part of the throat. When he put the sound in that place it sounded way better. I think if he had warmed up I would have liked his performance better. But overall it was very nice and Jake has an awesome voice.

Elizabeth Tate is a bucket breather and tended to colaspe her rib cage making it even harder to get good breath. Her intonation was good and I would call her voice light and spinning. I understood about 70% of her words but she could work on her diction a little more. Again her expression could have been more but she had expression so I was able to stay engaged in her song. Cinder helped her with her posture and het her high notes into the same high spot that she tried to get Jake into. It was fun to hear when she got it right. Over all it was a really good performance she looked professional and I think that helped her confidence.
