Jared Daley Chapter 4 Summary TC

Jared Daley Chapter 4 Summary TC

Summary:
There are three main rules to deep practice. The three rules are Chunking, Repeating, and learning to feel it. Chunking is the act of breaking down your music (Or whatever it is you are working on) into small sections. They can be as small as a measure if needs be. Breaking down into the smaller parts allows you to perfect and myelinate those smaller parts to create a perfect whole. Repeating is pretty straight forward. After you break down the music repeat the good habits over and over. You will struggle to accomplish what you want to have happen. Repeat the sections or chunks over and over. Make sure you are repeating only what you want to have myelinated. Learning to feel it is the most difficult step. In some instances the lack of feeling something is actually a good then. I think it all comes down to awareness. You must be aware of the good things you do as well as the bad. If something doesn't feel right you need to be aware of what you did in order to not repeat it or to repeat it if it's what you want to have happen. Learning to feel it is difficult, but i feel it's more of a result of deep practice then an actual step.
Key Concept:
Deep practice is like perfecting all the tiny pieces of a puzzle. When you have worked on all the little things, the greater whole benefits tremendously.
Key Terms: Chunking
Connection: If i actually take my pieces and give myself enough time to chunk them and form deep practice habits, I will not be stressed and I will have great performance outcomes. (worst run-on sentence ever, I know)This can also relieve tension, knowing I am fully prepared.
