Chapter Summary - Historians have tried to explain the extraordinary talent of "geniuses" such as the Brontë sisters, by using economic, political, or social reasoning. None of this is pertinent, because all that matters is myelin! Each talented individual throughout history has had an inordinant amount of time to deep practice his or her skill, therefore wrapping more myelin. Michelangelo was an artist's apprentice since a very young age, the Brontë sister's practiced writing since they were little, etc. Myelin does not care about who you are, what political, religious, or geographical environment you are in. It only cares about what you do. Meaning how much you practice, and how well. Our genes have designed our brain with the building blocks to "install" skill. However, they are not automatically installed; skill is installed by deep practice. We are all born with the opportunity to become the lords of our own Internet.
Key Concept - Rarely are people blessed with "genius." It's all developed through deep practice. This is because we are myelin beings.
Key Terms:
broadband = myelin
installers = oligodendrocytes
Making Connections
Every time I do something good in the practice room, I myelinate something right! I can be encouraged by that.
