Brooke- Ch. 8 Summary- This chapter starts out by telling the story of the Baron Lamm technique. Although he used is talent of discipline and exactitude to rob banks her was highly successful. Then the talent whisperers are introduced. They are teachers who listen more than talk and make specific targeted adjustments. They can listen to a student and know within seconds how to help them and what type of critique the student will take to. Two men decided they wanted to find the best teacher/coach and find out there secret. They found that out of all the information he gave only 6.9 % of the comments were compliments 6.6% were negative and about 75% was pure information. Wooden, the coach, paid particular attention to the small detail. Nothing was unworthy of his notice. Then on to Miss Mary. She was an average piano player but was an amazing beginners teacher. Her use of praise and not excusing mistakes made piano learning enjoyable yet efficient.

Connections- This chapter brought up questions for me that I had never considered. How do I become a talent whisperer? How can I teach a student in the most effective way possible? The answer to the first one came in the form of "Wooden" the coach. He is able to use the skills that he himself learned, look for any mistake, and be extremely detail oriented. The answer to the second question was answered by the humble Miss Mary. Although she was not the best in her field of piano playing the way she taught excusing no mistake but praising improvement or perfection helps the students myelin to grow. I need to base lessons to my future students to do this very thing.
